Top ten DC women | #1 Stephanie Brown

Stephanie was the first character in comics I fell in love with. She’s just a kid with a crappy father who wants to help people and it makes her one of the most relatable characters. She has no superpowers, no training, just a homemade costume and a lot of determination. We see her try and fail, make mistakes and get knocked down, but more important we always see her get back up.

Stephanie had a hard life and it made her the fierce, determined, stubborn, strong-willed girl she is. From the cluemasters daughter, to the spoiler (an unsanctioned vigilante on batmans turf), a girl told again and again to quit because she was too young, or too inexperienced, told she wasn’t good enough over and over, but she never quit. Her determination got her the position of Robin. And even after she was fired she still didnt give up.

At times they try to portray Stephanie as this stupid insolent child, but what I see is a strong-willed, loyal girl desperate for approval. She makes mistakes, but she tries and she never gives up. She wanted Robin and then later Batman’s approval. To show them she was good enough. Show the world she was good enough. But more importantly show herself she was good enough.

Stephanie is the girl that won Robins heart, made Batgirl laugh, and slapped Batman. And so much more.
